Dr. Dog Programme

Recently after meeting Shoba, we were introduced to Dr. Dog programme, Aisa's No. 1 AnimalTherapy Programme. It was formed not long ago and only recently i was introduced to it. I finally signed up for suki, hemmy and magic and they all need to go for a test on their temperament before they can be Dr. Dog. And while there, i met so many friends...who are also dog lovers.

Animals Asia's Dr. Dog project is an innovative, community-based programme that provides patients with what they need most - a best friend. Althought in Malaysia we are multi race and Muslim is the most difficult race that we faced, so at the beginning, this programme will only target to orphanages, schools, elderly home and disabled centres but of course we will have to get their permission before going. They will only penetrate to hospital at later stage.

Today, Dr. Dog has apread its canine comfort, laughter and friendship to six countries in Aisa. It provides a major source support for people stimulating recovery and development, whilst increasing self-confidence and a positive outlook. I hope i can live to see the programme can venture to hospital like other countries.

Animal Therapy is proven to work

1) It shows that close contact with companion animals has remarkable benefits on the physical and psychological health of patients.

2) Physical, occupational and speech therapy programmes repeatedly find that dogs help motivate patients to exercise, improve their verbal and coordination skills, as well as enhance mobility and social interation.

3) It also show that being in close contact with a companion animal can lower blood pressure and stress levels, as well as reduce cholestrol levels and boost the immune system.

4) Companion animals act as an important link to breakdown social barriers, increase communication and sensory stimulation as well as alleviate loneliness.

All Dr. Dogs will undergo a formal examination by trained Animals Asia Staff to assess temperament, obedience and suitability, as well as being continually monitored during visits.

Little Gideon (now Dr Gideon shows what a gentle soul he is during the rigorous examination.
